Stephen Foster Memorial Service

The 138th Anniversary of the death of Stephen Collins Foster will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2002 at 10:00 am at the STEPHEN FOSTER Monumental Stained Glass Window in the Temple of Memories Mausoleum, Allegheny Cemetery with the following program:

A continuation of the service will take place at 12:00 noon at Trinity Cathedral on Sixth Avenue (downtown Pittsburgh) featuring:

Musical Selections Stephen C. Foster School of Mt. Lebanon Elementary School Chorus, Band and Orchestra

Special Musical Selections Joe Negri, Famous Jazz Guitarist and Pittsburgh's musical and television legend

Stephen Foster, remembered as the American Troubadour was born on July 4, 1826 in Lawrenceville on the 50th birthday of the United States of America. His father William Barclay Foster was responsible for surveying and laying out the Lawrenceville area. At his burial in Allegheny Cemetery in 1864, the Citizen's Brass Band marched out from the Trinity Cathedral playing his songs, "Old Folks at Home" and "Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming".

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND THESE EVENTS or Visit the Gravesite in Section 21 of Allegheny Cemetery at anytime.

Good Friday Commemorating Holy Week

Allegheny Cemetery extends a Special Invitation to OWNERS, PROSPECTIVE OWNERS, FRIENDS and the GENERAL PUBLIC to visit, meditate and hear the music of RUTH L. BLIEL AT THE HAMMOND ORGAN and Featured Vocalists LISA BLIEL and CLINT BLIEL in the Raymond F. Moreland Memorial Chapel Temple of Memories Mausoleum at Penn Avenue.

A Program of Organ Music will emphasize the Great Hymns of the Church and Classical Selections. Requests will be welcome. Please accept our invitation to visit the Raymond F. Moreland Memorial Chapel for this service on Good Friday, March 29, 2002.

Our organist, Mrs. Ruth Bliel has an extensive background in music as an organist, choir director, organ and piano teacher. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association.

Memorial Day Parade and Services

Allegheny Cemetery's Annual Memorial Day Service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2002, 11:30 am at the Allegheny Cemetery Soldiers Memorial.

The parade will assemble on Liberty Avenue and proceed at 9:30 am to St. Mary's Cemetery and then to the Butler Street entrance of Allegheny Cemetery (Lawrenceville) where the participants will march to the Soldier's Memorial.
