Arsenal Monument, 1928

Section 17

This replaces an earlier marble obelisk to the memory of 43 girls buried here, some of the approximately 75 young workers killed at the nearby Allegheny Arsenal by an explosion. The accident of September 17, 1862 was the worst industrial accident associated with the Civil War.
